The Practice
The practice was established by Julyan Wickham, in London, in 1971. In 1990, he together with Tess Wickham van Eyck, established an office in Amsterdam, in order to fulfil commissions there, working in partnership with A & H van Eyck Architects. The practices work has been widely published and included in a number of public exhibitions: at the Architectural Association, the British Medical Association, Camden Arts Centre and the Royal Institutes of British Architects (RIBA). The work has also been recognised for a of number awards, from a variety of bodies including: Architectural Design magazine, the Civic Trust, the RIBA, the Royal Fine Art Commission, the Sunday Times and Time Out magazine.
Projects and clients
Commissions over the past 30 years have covered a wide range of projects, from urban master planning to bespoke interior fit-outs, including: a publishing headquarters, a health centre, a hospital for the handicapped, the fit-out of Kazahstan International Airport, office buildings, shops, the conversion of houses and listed buildings, a mixed-use urban complex by Tower Bridge, local authority housing, developer housing, individual private houses and a number of bars, restaurants and clubs. The practice's clients have included: the Architectural Association, ADC Properties Ltd, Almere New Town in Holland, Bank Group Restaurants plc, Joseph Berkman Restaurants, Corney & Barrow, the Department of Health and Social Security, Harvey Nichols, the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank, the London Borough of Waltham Forest, London Law and Land, Music Sales Ltd, Place Restaurants Ltd, Priest Marians Holdings plc, Pluto Press, Talisman Management Ltd, Time Out magazine and Virgin Atlantic Airways.
London and Amsterdam
Wickham van Eyck have offices in both London and Amsterdam. The practice has benefited greatly from this organisation, expanding its horizons in terms of clients and projects and allowing it draw upon wider resources in terms of construction methods and consultants.
